About:
Xan Denker (they/them) is a freelance trumpet player and educator based in Boston, MA. A native of the Cleveland area, Xan began learning the trumpet and cornet from their mother at age 8. They went on to study with Michael Miller of the Cleveland Orchestra; at 16, they joined the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra as a section trumpet, later serving as principal for the 2018-2019 season and 2019 European tour.

Xan is a recent graduate of Boston University, where they earned their B.M. in Trumpet Performance under Professor Terry Everson. While at BU, Xan participated in trumpet ensembles for the National Trumpet Competition (2020) and International Trumpet Guild Conference (2023), and formed the semi-professional Amory Brass Quintet, which has performed regularly in the Boston area since 2021.

Outside of their time at Centre Music House, Xan currently holds teaching positions with Wayland Public Schools, and they are entering their second season as 2nd cornet with the New England Brass Band. You might also spot Xan at Symphony Hall, where they have been an usher since 2021.
