Virtual Student Showcase
Spring 2021

Performance is a critical component of music education. When you perform in front of an audience you gain valuable life experiences and share your music with the world. The Student Showcase is all about giving our musicians the opportunity to perform and gain these valuable life experiences in the company and with the support of their family, friends, and the Centre Music House community

The Virtual Student Showcase is back and this time better than ever. With rewards and prizes for students, new group performances, hilarious skits, and more, we hope to give students the same sense of accomplishment they get from performing in-person while delivering a fun and entertaining event that you can enjoy with your whole family.

Enjoy the show!

Let's get the show on the road!

You’re the star of the show!

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, this is your chance to share your music with the world. Talk to your teacher to let them know you're interested. They'll help you pick one song to perform that you love and that showcases your musical talents.

Your pre-recorded performance will be featured in a live-streamed concert alongside 100 other Centre Music House students. Your friends and family members from all over the world will tune in just to watch you and your fellow musicians perform.

Spaces are limited so sign up as soon as you can! Click here to sign up.

Get creative & express yourself!

Since you will be filming your performance, you have all sorts of opportunities to make it uniquely yours. Need some inspiration? Below are some ideas that other students did in the past which you can apply to your own performance:

  • Create your own staging, set-design, and/or costume
  • Write and perform one of your original songs
  • Play a duet with a family member
  • Flex your video editing skills with different effects, camera angles, or stitch together a four part band where you play all the instruments!

When your video is done and ready, then it’s time to submit it. Click here to submit your video.

A job well done deserves a reward

Signing up

Q: Who can sign up for the Student Showcase?
This event is for Centre Music House students only.

Q: How do I sign up for the Student Showcase?
Go to this form to sign up online.

Q: How many songs can I perform?
Students are limited to one song each.

Q: I take lessons on more than one instrument. Do I get to perform twice?
Yes, you’ve found the loophole! If you take lessons on multiple instruments, you may sign up to perform once on each.

Q: I’m not sure what song I want to do. Can I still sign up?
Yes. If you’re not sure what song you want to perform, you can sign up and put TBD as in “to be determined.”

Q: Is there a fee?
Yes, there is a $10 per student sign-up fee for the Showcase.

Q: How do I pay the fee?
We will add the sign-up fee to your monthly bill in December.

Q: I’ve signed-up, what now?
After signing up, it’s up to you and your teacher to pick a song and work together to help you get prepared for your performance.

Q: How should I prepare?
The goal is to be able to play your song all the way through, without stopping, and to the best of your ability. There’s only one way to do that and it’s practice, practice, practice!

Q: Will I be performing live online?
No, students will have to pre-record themselves performing their song and send it in. Your performance will be played during the livestream.

Q: How should I record my performance?
There are several ways you can record your performance:

  • Record it during your lesson. Zoom has a record feature which allows your teacher to record the audio and video from a lesson.
  • Use your phone. iPhones and other smart devices come packed with really high quality cameras and microphones. You can get a decent recording by either setting up your phone and hitting record or asking a family member to film your performance.
  • Use a digital camera. Any DSLR camera can also shoot film at high quality. This will get you the best picture quality by far.
  • Use your laptop's built-in webcam and microphone.

Q: What are the guidelines for the recording?
As long as you’re performing your song and the content of your video is appropriate for children and families, you’re free to get as creative as you want! Dress up, create your own stage, invite your family to appear, have fun!
