Recital Pieces for Mallets by Garwood Whaley

The purpose of this text is to provide an eclectic collection of unaccompanied solo works for mallets. The works contained in this volume were originally composed for instruments alone. They are uniquely suitable for recitals, auditions, jury exams, or simply for one's own musical enjoyment.

Each solo appears in its original form. Directions regarding tempo, phrasing, dynamics, and articulation appear only if indicated by the composer. However, information pertaining to tempo, style, and a short historical description of the various movements is contained in the Glossary.

Since this collection was compiled for intermediate-advanced performers, sticking, mallets selection, and idiomatic techniques such as rolls have been left up to the individual. Rolls, however, should ne used sparingly keeping in mind the sound of the original instrument for which each piece was composed.
