Kabalevsky 35 Easy Pieces, Opus 89 (6)

Kabalevsky (1904-1987) believed that “no piece of music, however short and modest, should pass by a child without touching his mind and heart.” His last set of piano pieces for students was composed between 1972 and 1974, when the composer was in his late sixties. These were also his last compositions for piano. In Kabalevsky's output, 35 Easy Pieces for Children most closely resembles 24 Pieces for Children, Op. 39, which was composed thirty years earlier. These are exquisite miniatures by a master composer, conceived to teach technical as well as musical progress. Schirmer Performance Editions are designed for piano students and their teachers as well as for professional pianists. These editions offer insightful interpretive suggestions, pertinent fingering, and historical and stylistic commentary. Prepared by experienced artists and master teachers, these publications provide an accurate, well-informed score resource for pianists.
