Andersen is considered one of the best of his time, both as a virtuoso and as a composer of flute music. His reputation as a challenging and demanding teacher preceded him for good reason - they worked. His volumes of etudes are widely considered to be his greatest success, and are still used by flutists aspiring to be top professionals.
