Sure, you may be bale to sing, whistle, or hum a tune. But can you do it in time?
Rhythm is the element of music that makes it come alive. The focus of this workshop will be to get deeper into the feeling of rhythm by playing together as a percussive ensemble. We will use buckets to put what we learn into practice and to connect sound with physical feeling. We will also use simple techniques like foot tapping and clapping, using our voices for counting and sounding out music, and experimenting with alternative forms of rhythmic solfege. You’ll learn how to vocalize rhythms to bring musical phrases to life and to make smoother transitions to playing phrases on your instrument.
What you'll learn
Students will in the Rhythm & Beats Workshop will:
- Become stronger at rhythm performance.
- Learn how rhythm and beat work together.
- Play together.
- Overcome rhythm challenges on their primary instrument
We will start with simple concepts for thinking about rhythm, making sure every musician is building a strong foundation, and then advancing to keep it challenging and musically engaging.
The process will be fun. The skills we learn and practice will begin to give you a sense of empowerment and confidence about shaping your musical expression. And you will be testing what you learn by being part of a dynamic ensemble where the sole focus is on rhythm.
